How long does it take to finish a Marathon?

How long is a marathon? The marathon is a long-distance foot race with an official distance of 42.195 kilometers (26 miles and 385 yards) that is usually run as a road race. Running a marathon may seem impossible, but with the right training plan and attitude, even non-runners can work up to finishing all 26.25 miles!

The Marathon defined by the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF), the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), and the Road Running Technical Council of USA Track & Field (RRTC/USATF).

The marathon was one of the original modern Olympic events in 1896, though the distance did not become standardized until 1921. The men's world record is 2 hours and 4 minutes and the women's world record is 2 hours 15 minutes. More than 500 marathons are contested throughout the world each year, with the vast majority of competitors being recreational athletes.

2 types of Marathon Long Runs You Should Use with long runs during a marathon program, you are trying to realize two distinct purposes. On the one hand, you are trying to maximize your ability to burn fat and spare your limited muscle carbohydrate stores as well as improving your leg strength and resistance to fatigue.

On the other hand, you are trying to become more economical at your marathon race pace along with testing out your race equipment and nutritional plan. Running a marathon requires both physical and mental strength, immense focus, commitment and time. However, if you make the commitment, you will find that completing a marathon will be one of the most satisfying experiences of your life.

I run from late January all the way through mid November. I run about 35-45 miles a week 6 days a week depending on what my coach wants me to run. I never run in the rain or snow only when it is sunny. How often should I change my sneakers? Is once a year good, or what because my dad does not want to keep buying my new running sneakers that often. Also, I have another pair of sneakers not for running so I just use my running shoes while running.

I ran in cross country this season (our cross country team is super intense, averaging 6-7 miles six days a week) so I definitley am in shape. Now that season is over, I'm not sure if I should be conditioning or still running. If i kept running, I'd only run about 15-20 miles week. Will I get injured? I realllly wanna keep running though! I'm actually planning on maybe running a half marathon! Helpp!

Hey guys. I've heard running is bad for your knees. First of all, I have perfect running gear and everything. I also just finished cross country season at school. I know I'm going to run more, but I've heard it's bad for your knees. Even if I still run with perfect gear and shoes, will I still damage/harm my knees. I just didn't want to have anything messed up or any problems when I grow up to be around 40+. I'm really healthy and fit, can you guys help me? Thanks.
