Top 11 Reasons to Start a Running Program

Whether you are considering beginning a running program or you are here looking for motivation, running is a great form of exercise. Let me tell you why. Here are the top 11 of the many reasons you should start a running program.

  1. Weight loss. I am not sure this is the most important reason, but it is certainly the most popular one. Many people start running to lose weight, but they keep running for many reasons.
  2. Lower risk of having a heart attack. There are many cardiovascular benefits to running.
  3. Increase in lung strength. Running will cause you to use more of your lung capacity. People who do not exercise do not use as much as 50% of their lung capacity.
  4. "Runners high". Runners experience a release of endorphins which improves their moods tremendously.
  5. Reduced risk of depression. Running has been shown to reduce the risk of depression. It may also help those already suffering from it.
  6. Live longer. Those who have an established form of exercise in their lives tend to live longer than those who do not.
  7. Prevent diabetes. Running can can to prevent and control diabetes as part of a lifestyle change.
  8. Lower blood pressure. It will increase the strength and elasticity of your arteries.
  9. Improved bone strength. If you do not create any stress on your bones, they will get weaker over time.
  10. Reduced risk of cancer. Studies have shown that physically active people are less likely to develop some types of cancer.
  11. Better sleep. If you suffer from insomnia or just can't seem to get a good night's sleep, running may help.

There you have it! Although there are probably many more reasons to start a running program, these should get your started. Get out those running shoes!

Why is a running program not visible or usable? (Answers: 1) (Comments: 0)
I installed VirtualBox last night and used it successfully. Left it running over night and then had to reboot the machine for unrelated issues. Now, when I open the program, it says it's running in task manager, but nothing happens. The program doesn't actually open and I can't use it now. Any ideas as to how I can fix this? I'm using Vista Premium 32-bit.

I want to go to the CBP Academy, what is the running program like? (Answers: 2) (Comments: 0)
I am hoping on getting into the CBP academy and I am starting a running program. I have had a problem with shin splints in the past, but I really want to be an agent so I've been running through the pain. I saw my doctor and he recommended some stretches. I bought shoes from a running store and that didn't work. What other suggestions. I don't want to be disqualified because of this! How often do you run at the academy? How many miles?
