A 10k run means running for 6.2 miles. It may not appear all that far in comparison to other longer distance that folk run, either for delight or for competition, but it remains a major distance and requires careful preparation and training. The 10k race is popular because ( a ) training for it can be done on a part time basis without interfering with a person's ordinary activities, ( b ) it is more of a challenge than a 5k race but is still within the capability of the general public to achieve and ( c ) the length of the course and the duration makes it better to arrange than marathons or other long distance races.

Why do folks run 10k? Among many reasons are :

I'm meant to be running a 10k on Sunday. I've not had an injury for ages, and then yesterday I stubbed my toe and I've bruised the stupid thing.
