Is running in place good for endurance?

I don't care about losing weight or burning calories, I just want to be able to run without getting tired easily because I want to join high school football. Is running in place good?

From my personal experience, there's two kinds of endurance when I train for the CN Tower climb. Muscular and Cardio.
One of the years I only did the stair climber machine and step-ups. The results were my cardio was unable to keep up with my muscles (fast heart rate and shortness of breathe, but felt no muscle fatigue).
The following year, I tackled the treadmills and did some suicides. The results were my muscles gave in before cardio. I had to walk up with handrails instead of jog cause my thigh and glutes were dead.
So I decided to actually run up the stairs, but didnt have time to train this year...probably another problem might come up. lol.

So basically to increase running endurance would be by running. As stair climbing endurance would be increased by running up the stairs. Just imitate the motion that you want as much as possible. And also do anaerobic exercise instead of just aerobic cause short bursts of hi speed is required.

I think...lol...it's all from personal experience. I havent asked a fitness trainer, but they might give a similar answer.
