I actually did a 10K this morning and I ate Kentucky Fried Chicken and Cheesecake last night..it didn't faze me at all. However a more suitable meal had it not been a treat and usually what I eat is a meat and 2 veggies and plenty of water all day. If you've been doing this for a long time I don't think you need a special diet*(which is my case--I only run for fun) but if you're training competively you should be eating fats in moderation and concentrating on veggies for dinner with a steak (good for energy) and of course white meat

You want a fair amount of protein, a bit more salt than they recommended guidelines, a lot of carbs, very little fibre, and a fair amount of unsaturated fat. Pasta would be a good option, but use the non-wholegrain version, as it reduces fibre. Many Ironman triathletes, who swim 4k, cycle 180k and run a marathon eat pasta with chicken, or lasagne. Both are great choices. Remember to add a bit of salt, but not too much, as too much can cause some pretty nasty hypernatremia symptoms. Dont drink too much water, as your body processes it overnight and gets rid of it the following morning. Hyperhydration also causes the opposite of salt overload-salt deficiency. This can actually cause a coma if serious!

Best of luck with your 10k!

You sound well prepared to run the 10 km. Nothing makes you feel better than to eat something that psyche yourself with full of energy and some solid food to prevent your stomach's hunger pangs interfering with your deep restful slumber.
Generally fibrous vegetables like carrot, green broccoli, long beans, okra (lady finger), tomato and white large onions would provide essential vitamins, minerals and roughage. It would satisfy your stomach demands. and these can be light broiled with a pinch of salt and light touch of olive oil. It goes well with 50 gm beef steak (half done is juicy) and two mild fried egg sunny side up.to provide proteins and prepare your muscles for the burnt out during the stressful 10 km run. Don't forget to wash it down with a glass of moo-kwa-niu nai and honey.
With this mental and physical preparation, including high octane fuel (food) your engine is fine tuned and prepared for the gruelling race.

    Hope this is helpful.

    more carbs the better
in high school we always had pasta suppers the night before a race with the team, so if your running the race with other people i recommend this
basically just get some pasta for carbs, bread for carbs, and then a small amount of some kind of meat. this will give you not only some protein for rebuild, but it also gives you some fat to keep some substance in your body, a lot of people disregard fat in their diets when they run

Pasta and garlic chicken! Pasta for carbs, chicken to rebuild but if not it will turn to carbs. Call me crazy but I love sweating and smelling the garlic oozing out my pores as im running/lifting weights better than bio I suppose but its good for the heart too.

You basically want complex carbs which break down slowly to give you enery towards the end of the run. If your adding any meat into the carb dish then remember protein can turn into carbs to give you energy but carbs cant turn into protein. Tuna is also a good choice with pasta or rice.

Hope that helps and good luck with your run

spaghettie, it has a lot of good carbs and thats what you want to load up on, or salty chicken to replace your salt
