Half Marathon Running Plan for BEGINNERS?

I am a very, very beginner who has 6 months to build up to running 13 miles. I have been looking online and most of the plans start out with running at least 5 miles, which I can NOT do. Does anyone know of any running plans that might be better suited to my fitness level (level 0! LOL) Preferably, I would like to start out walking with a one mile goal the first week.

Thanks!

runners world magazine usually has great advice for beginners.
i would suggest you start with a shorter distance before trying to tackle a 1/2 marathon.

try a couple of 5 or 10k runs before you run a marathon. this will help you prepare for your future marathon runs.

I'm in the same position as yourself.

I started running about 3 miles, then 4 and now 5 with ease. (I run about 3-4 times a week)

I've also purchased a Polar HRM watch to monitor my progress, and it's a rather fun thing to do marking down all your progress.

    Good luck

I dont know if 6 months is long enough, but you should start by running as long as you can, then walking until you can run again. Bring water and work out your legs lightly (do lunges and squats while you watch TV). Wear light ankle weights around the house and take them off before you run. This strains your muscles a little bit (not dangerously) and makes your legs feel lighter when you run.

Don't wear ankle weights. You should run 6 days a week. Run your runs comfortably, though. That's what base mileage is all about. Increase a mile to your runs every two weeks.
