How to get rid of a stitch in a running race?
I am in a running race next week and want to know how to get rid of a stitch quickly? It is 4 kilometres and I am in high school. Are than any tips or advice you can give me to make me go faster or feel less tired? Thanks!

Eat properly leading up to the race. If its in the afternoon, make sure you eat a healthy breakfast with wholegrains and protein.
Make sure you fuel up before your race. Maybe half an hour to an hour before, eat a sandwhich made with white bread and jam. This gives you refined carbs therefore quick energy for your race. The reason why youd feel tired is that you didnt eat enough to give you sufficient fuel to run the race.
Dont drink anything just before the race or else this will cause a stitch.
If you get a stitch, put your hands behind your head, straighten your spine and try to breathe slowly, in and out. While doing this, try to walk a little bit.
Also, if its 4km, work on trying to keep your pace. Choose a pace that you feel you can sustain over a long period of time. If people pass you by, dont worry about it. Theyll get tired quicker and will fall further behind than where you are. Sprint the last 100m though.
Good Luck!! I have school athletics tomorrow aswell! The longest race is 1.5 km's!

You are low on the trace minerals Potassium, Selenium, Magnesium and Sodium.
These minerals are known as the electrolytes. They allow the muscles of the body to contract and relax. Your intercostal muscle groups are finding it difficult to relax while your breathing heavy, giving you pain in between your ribcage, known as a 'stitch'.
In the short term, Gatorade and some bananas.

I find that if i put my hands behind my head and run faster then gradually it goes away.
Also pushing againest it helps to ease the pain if that other technique doesn't work.
Remember to sprint the start and end and pace ur self through out the race.
Good luck :)

bananas are great in the morning and 10 mins before a running race.
There are so many different ways not to get the stich, a random one that works for me is to grab some grass or a green leaf, works everytime for me.
