Cross Country Running? Equipment? Difference between track and XCross?

So, I am starting Cross Country for my High School team, can someone tell me about it, because I never did it. Like, Is it just running? and whats the difference between Cross Country and Track? I am a pretty good runner, I played Soccer for the past 4 years. I have Captains Practice tomorrow for XCross and I was wondering what I need? A good pair of sneakers? Is that it? Thanks for all who answer! =)

Ha, I just got back from practice. XCountry is just running on trails and pre set routes that your coaches have scoped out. The routes are normally 1-5 miles. Some will have a loop or you do laps to gain extra miles.

Most races are 5k (3.2 miles) but almost all practices will cover more distance than that. A typical day for me is between 7 and 11 miles, plus some core conditioning. Don't worry about it to start. You go slower than in track, but you just keep on going, and going, and going.

As long as you have running shoes, you're set. Some people like to buy running shorts also. Most boys run without a shirt, and most girls run in a sports bra. Just get used to the distance, and that's all. Good luck, and have fun!

cross country is long distance running on trails. in high school the races are usually 5ks or about 3 miles. i thought it was a lot different from track considering its a lot more fun than running laps around a track and get to run on fun trails through mud and water. you should get a good pair of running shoes and make sure you have them professionally fitted or you can get injured easily. you may also want to get a pair of running shoes with spikes similar to what they use in track which will help you improve your speed and get a grip on the rough terrain. then you just need comfy lightweight running apparel for cold and warm weather as it takes place in the fall and you never know about the weather.

XC is distance running. In high school the races are 5k (3.1miles), and sometimes they have "freshman races" which are shorter, around 2 miles. In XC there is one race, or two if it is big. In track there are a ton of different distances, from 100m to 3200 meters. You will need running shoes and running shorts and a tee shirt. You just run, thats it. We do trail runs and long runs, which are 70+ minutes as well as tempo runs and speed workouts.

what is XCross that is like saying crosscross. It is either cross country or XCountry. It Isn't XCross. I think that you are stupid and should spend more time revising your writing.
