Chicago is a pleasant city for running. Although the weather can become a bit intense at times , the flat terrain and the opportunity to run along the lake shore make racing here delightful. Even the wind, which executives who measure their times in hundredths of a second frequently protest about, is something that most other runner find refreshing. Another great thing about Chicago is the people who are ever ready to stop on the paths and cheer on runners as the pass by.

Chicago 5k races are scheduled all year round. In fact there might be weeks - or even days - when there are 2 or more 5k runs scheduled. With this variety of racing opportunities, it is often tricky to decide on which race to enter. Given below is a minute list of just some of the many 5k races held in Chicago each year.

A favored 5k race held in Nov is the Edison Park Turkey run. Turkey runs are extremely preferred in Chicago. There is a gigantic one held every year in Lincoln Park, but smaller one like this have their own charms and attract some dedicated runners who return year after year.

A 5K race which has changed from being a night time run to a morning one without losing any of it popularity is the Universal Sole Resolution Run held in December.

Folks who run this one are dedicated runners who have forsaken their New Year's Eve festivities to be in a condition to start the year off on the right note by running in this race. Naturally, you will also find a few blurry eyed runners who have not recovered from the prior night's excesses trying to stagger the distance.

If you like to race in the evenings, you might try the Chicago Fire wrestlers 5k Run for the children which begins from the Great Lawn at soldier Field.

I'm a novice runner. How do I increase my 5K time from 0.41 to 0.30? Which training plan below is better? (Answers: 3) (Comments: 0)
(A) Gradually increase current 5K training speed from 7.2 kph to 10.2 kph over a period of 6 months, or (B) up speed immediately from 7.2 kph to 8.8 kph on next 5K training run (gasp!) and maintain for 6 months interspersed with interval training once a week (gasp!!), plus an 8-10K easy run once every fortnight at 6.8 kph, or (C), just do the easy run every other day for the next 6 months, with one such run in each month incorporated with speed-recovery / hill-recovery cycles (gasp!!!). Need your good advice, brothers and sisters on the run. Thanks.

I am planning on doing a 5k and eventually a 10k but I haven't done any in the past. I'm looking for a good training program but I know nutrition is just as important. Does anyone know of any plans that could help me?

ok so back last september i ran a 20:35 at this one course, the rest of the season was pretty medicore but anyways, i ran it today and got 18:37, the season hasn't started yet, i've been running for the past 5 months straight pretty much (last 2 weeks i backed off a lot because of school and i'm sick) any ideas on how to drop it 1-2 minutes by this september, i need tips or any running plans?
